The Update Personnel feature in ARROW is a convenient way to add study team members to an existing application. The Update Personnel guidance mentions many reasons why a study team member may not be successful in adding someone to the application, but here is a list of the most common reasons. Please note that IRB staff cannot add study team members to the application.
- The person trying to add a new study team member must be the PI or a Point of Contact. See the Study Team page of the application for a list of Points of Contact.
- The person whom the study team wishes to add may not be in ARROW. HRPP guidance Accessing ARROW and the NetID Process and What if I can’t find someone in ARROW? explain how to address this.
- The Update Personnel feature cannot be used if there is an open change of protocol for that application.
- The person whom the study team is trying to add may not have current, required CITI training, which includes human subjects training for all human subjects research applications and good clinical practice training for all studies that meet the NIH definition of a clinical trial. You can look up an individual’s training in the OVCR Training Information Lookup Tool.
- The person whom the study team is trying to add is external to UW-Madison. For all non-exempt human subjects research applications, contact RELIANT at irbreliance@wisc.edu for assistance adding an external study team member.
