If your study requires continuing review, we ask that you submit your continuing review (CR) at least 45 days prior to the study’s expiration to allow sufficient time for IRB review. CRs are reviewed in order, based on the expiration date of the study. The goal is to review CRs relatively soon after their submission, while also taking care not to shorten the study’s review period. This guidance applies to ALL continuing reviews.

The IRB makes every effort to review CRs prior to a study’s expiration date. However, this is a joint effort, and to accomplish this, we need the study team’s help in submitting their CR within the requested timeframe to ensure sufficient time for IRB review.

Some additional continuing review reminders/notices:

  • A continuing review, change of protocol, and reportable event can all be submitted at the same time in ARROW.
  • CRs for Statistical Data Analysis Center (SDAC) studies can be reviewed under expedited procedures.
  • If a study team has any special requests regarding the CR review (e.g., need CR approved by certain date for funding purposes, etc.) please include a note about the request in the text box when submitting the CR.
